England vs. Sri Lanka

2nd ODI at Headingley

By David Cooper

This is my first cricket match.

The Stadium

Is amazing. A great place to experience cricket. The tiered seating is not too high, and it seems like any seat would give you a great view of the picth. I was in the North East Stand, which had great sun all through the day. It was breezy and cool, but with periods of joyous warmth when the wind died down.

The Match

The Crowd

This is where I got a little disappointed. There were so many people of varying ages, genders, and backgrounds, which was so heartening to see, and the general turnout appeared to be around the 75% capacity mark, which was brilliant. There were some problems, though. On the stands, there were signs everywhere asking people to stay seated during an over, which is perfectly fair, the players don’t need people moving around in their eyeline whilst playing. The amount of people who seemingly didn’t notice, or care, was disappointing. Also, the number of people up and down, and having a general chit-chat instead of watching the game I found confusing. Tickets were reasonably priced, but it’s certainly an expensive way of meeting your mates for a chat over a worrying number of high-cost pints!
